Rose Marie Prins paintings on exhibit at Catherine Hickman Theater

Rose Marie Prins is well regarded for her artfully layered and battered mixed media abstract paintings, often in dark tones. Several new works are an unexpected and rich blue. "I still encrusted them with earth but they somehow became more blue," she says. See them at the Catherine Hickman Theater, 5501 27th Ave. S, Gulfport, at a show opening with a free reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday that includes live music and a reading of a poem by Timothy Houghton that inspired her recent art.
