We were wondering where Sen. Bill Nelson was earlier when President Donald Trump touched down in Fort Myers.
"I’m in North Florida handing out meals and seeing some of the destruction here," the Democrat said in voice mail.
It wasn’t clear if Nelson intended to be in Fort Myers and Naples. A reporter traveling with Vice President Mike Pence indicated Nelson was one of the listed greeters at the airport.
UPDATE: Nelson tells us he got an invite last night but that he was already on way to Alachua County, where the river is rising.
Trump was surrounded by Florida’s top Republicans, including Gov. Rick Scott, whom Trump encouraged to run against Nelson, Sen. Marco Rubio and Attorney General Pam Bondi.
