A year ago today, Donald Trump conquered Florida, taking its 29 electoral votes and setting off on an extraordinary night that resulted in him becoming president.
"This is it," Trump said before thousands at Sarasota County Fairgrounds the day before the election. "Good luck, get out there. I did my thing."
Voters, he said, have "one magnificent chance to beat the corrupt system. … I'm asking you to dream big."
Florida was a battle to the end but the grassroots enthusiasm for Trump was always evident in the noisy, charged rallies he frequently held across the state.
The final tally:
Trump > 4,617,886 (49%)
Clinton > 4,504,975 (47.8%)
But can the Trump style prevail? Yesterday's election results suggest a rocky midterm cycle.
