The National Rifle Association launched a last-minute email blitz in an effort to stop new gun laws from passing in the Florida Senate.

Lobbyist Marion Hammer told NRA members: "Senators are being bullied into voting for gratuitous gun control measures in order to be able to vote on school safety."

Hammer is trying to kill SB 7026, which is scheduled to be debated and amended for the first time on the Senate floor.

"Urge them to provide armed security in schools and tighten mental health laws to keep guns out of the hands of those who are a danger to themselves or others," Hammer writes. "But leave the rights of law-abiding gun owners alone."

Senators have proposed 48 amendments to the bill, including a statewide ban on assault weapons and removal of a controversial new program that would allow trained teachers and school personnel to carry weapons.
