Flush with cash after his unexpected primary win last week, Andrew Gillum's campaign for governor is hitting the airwaves statewide.
Its first television ad of the general election will be released statewide Wednesday, the campaign announced, in a six-figure cable buy that will also be released digitally.
The 30-second spot, titled "American Way," shows footage of Gillum voting for himself on primary day, waiting with his children for election results, then addressing supporters at his victory party in downtown Tallahassee after his win.
Money has been rolling into the campaign since Gillum won the Democratic nomination: The Democratic Governors Association alone announced Thursday that it is donating $1 million to his political committee Forward Florida. Since primary day, the committee has reported $2.3 million in contributions — and that doesn't include money raised through his campaign.
"Today our campaign launched our first general election television and digital ad," said campaign communications director Geoff Burgan in a statement. "'American Way' will introduce Floridians to Mayor Gillum and his family, and remind voters that the American Dream is still possible and it begins right here in Florida."
