The exodus of agency heads from Gov. Rick Scott's administration continues as Gov.-elect Ron DeSantis prepares to take office in January.

Department of Transportation Secretary Mike Dew has submitted his resignation effective Monday, while Division of Emergency Management Director Wes Maul sent a letter Thursday to staff members and DeSantis saying said he intends to step down in January.

Maul, who is paid $141,000 annually, spent about three years in the governor's office before becoming deputy chief of staff at the Division of Emergency Management in mid-2016. Maul was elevated to the director position by Scott to replace Bryan Koon, who left to take a private-sector job in September 2017.

Dew, with an annual salary of $151,000, is expected to join DeSantis' transition team. He has been secretary of the Department of Transportation since June 2017.

A replacement by the governor requires a recommendation from the Florida Transportation Commission. Dew was chief of staff at the Department of Transportation before moving into the top position. He previously served as chief of staff at the Department of Corrections and was Scott's director of external affairs in 2011 and 2012.
