Sappers Forward
How fitting; Sappers Forward. Birgit, Paul truely lived the Engineer way "Let us try". What Paul did was succeed. Succeed in ways most men can only envy. Yes the ultimate sacrifice was said to be paid. But, keep this in mind always; it was paid for through love, devotion and selfless service to our Nation, his fellow Combat Engineers and most importantly you his loving family. Essayons

Thank You
As small as it seems, all I can say is "thank you" for your sacrifice....thie old saying is still true "freedom is not free". Our thoughts and prayers go with each of you, may you all have a safe return....and thanks, for what you are doing...keeping America free and strong. You are all heroes...

Hero's
What a great way to give tribute to a hero and to all the service men and women who put there lives on the line everyday. I will make sure that my kids read this so they can understand why we have the freedom we do and what price was paid for that freedom. God bless Rick Pond

Hallowed Ground
I walked the terrain on the morning of 24 DEC 2005 with the soldiers from my section. It is truly hallowed ground. It is an honor to serve in the United States Army with the legacy of men like SFC Smith, and with the soldiers whose dedication to duty and mission make me proud to be a Soldier every day. Humbling
I walked the terrain this morning with about 15 Soldiers from my TOC. I was surprised at how close in the area is - most battlefields I've walked seem that way. But as we walked and talked about the battle, I was truly humbled by the actions of SFC Smith and his Soldiers. Sergeant Major Chris Raines, 205th MI Bde

when I tell my grandkids about heroes
the man I will tell them about will be Sgt 1st Class Paul Smith. A hero isn't a man that stars in a movie, plays sports, or acts like an idiot. To me a hero is a man that will give his full measure to save the life of his comrades, buddies, and strangers. There are two people that come to mind when I think of that discription. Jesus Christ, and even though Sgt 1C Paul Smith isn't Jesus Christ, he fits the description above. Jesus Christ said "Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends" Holy Bible
