DUNNELLON — Local golfers were nearly shut out at the Class A, Region 3 girls golf tournament at Juliette Falls.
Only Saddlebrook’s Lauren Riehle advanced to next week’s state tournament in Ocala.

Riehle carded 6-over-par 78 to place second individually.

Pasco’s Kellianne May was one stroke from forcing a playoff for the final spot in the state tournament field. May, who said it was her first time breaking 80 at such an important tournament, double bogeyed the final hole.

“I worked my butt off for that score,” May said. “I’m happy with how I played even though I don’t get to go to states.”

The Villages won the team competition after combining for a 387 team score. Mount Dora Bible (396) was second and also advances.

Led by May, Pasco shot 414 as a team and was fourth, the highest finish of any local school.
