SEFFNER — Seffner Christian ace Garrett Saunders had an impressive seven-strikeout effort in Thursday’s District A-8 final as the Crusaders defeated Bradenton Christian 4-1 to remain undefeated in district play.

“The paper in the morning might say that I got the win, but this whole team got the win,” Saunders said.

The Crusaders (16-8, 7-0) put pressure on the Panthers (7-10, 1-4) early as Michael Ananicz was faced with a bases-loaded situation in the first inning after walking Landon Allensworth. One out later, Ananicz walked Joey Kohl and a run scored to give the Crusaders a 1-0 lead.

“When the bases are loaded and you show that determination, you don’t chase those pitches you want to and it pays off,” Seffner coach Johnny Saunders said.

With two out in the bottom of the third, Crusaders eight-grader Nahshon Benoit hit an RBI single to make it 2-0 after another bases-loaded situation.

The Sharks’ only run came on an errant throw by Seffner catcher Derrick Smith in the fourth inning.
