TAMPA — The new rivalry between Bradenton Christian and Seffner Christian added another page Thursday night as the Panthers swept the Crusaders 25-20, 25-13, 25-11 in the District A-8 final. It is the Panthers’ first District A-8 championship after changing districts this season.

Being in a new district and battling injuries all season, the Panthers are defying the odds. Coach Greg Geraldson said he believes his team can continue to win if its attitude remains unchanged, and he even has bigger goals for his team.

“If we can keep winning and play like this, we can go to the state tournament,” Geraldson said.

Seffner Christian will go on the road in the region quarterfinal to face Victory Christian. The Crusaders’ Laura Swartz had 13 kills.

The Panthers were led by senior hitter Maria DeKuiper’s 12 kills. DeKuiper, also a basketball player, has been a key player this season for the Panthers.

"I can thank my awesome setter Ashley Deal,” said DeKuiper. “It was complete teamwork tonight.”

The Panthers will host the region quarterfinals against Sonrise Christian.

Chynna Ratner, a junior, added 11 kills for the Panthers.
