TAMPA — In the first matchup of the Class A, District 8 semifinals at Bayshore Christian on Tuesday, Bradenton Christian swept Hernando Christian 25-14, 25-21, 25-16 to earn a berth in Thursday night’s final. In the other semifinal, Seffner Christian swept Bayshore Christian 25-19, 25-14, 25-17.

It was the Crusaders’ first victory over the Faith Warriors this season, and the Crusaders were led by Laura Swartz’s 20 kills. Coach Kyle Bingham credits Swartz and the team’s defense for their success.

“Laura is a great hitter, she can hit the ball anywhere we need her to,” Bingham said. “We also could not have won like this without our defense.”

The Crusaders opened up the second game scoring 12 straight points and never looked back.

The Faith Warriors were led by senior Amanda Mirabella’s 11 kills and senior Hanna Mirabella’s seven kills.

Bayshore coach Melanie Humenansky is proud of her team’s effort.

“I have four eighth-graders on the court, we have a bright future,” Humenansky said. “My girls didn’t give up, they kept fighting, that’s all I can ask them to do.”

Crusader Gabriella Laloma added 30 assists.
