After finishing fourth and just missing the cut for regionals  a season ago in the team standings, Springstead not only advanced Monday at the 2A-5 tournament at the Golf Club of Ocala, but came away with a trophy.

With state qualifier Megan Berube leading the charge, the Eagles (404 strokes) finished second by only one stroke to Lecanto (403). Forest came in third (405) in one of the closest finishes recorded.

Berube (1-under 71) edged West Port’s Angela Gaines (72) for the individual title by one stroke, sinking a 60-foot putt on the final hole to give her that advantage.

It was Berube second’s straight district title after shooting a 69 at Ocala Palms Golf & Country Club last season for the title. But this time she will be joined at regionals by teammates Emma Betters (108), Kylie Van Meter (112), Kiki Schau (113) and Kerstin Yarbrough (142).

Central’s Stephanie Rodney advanced as an individual. Her round of 78 grouped her with Gaines and Lake Minneola’s Kaitlin Holt as the others to qualify.
