LARGO — In the Class 2A, District 9 semifinals, one game featured an offense that was firing on all cylinders while the other was a tale of two halves.

In the early game Thursday, Bishop McLaughlin easily beat Indian Rocks Christian 5-0. The Hurricanes got a goal in the first minute from midfielder Spencer Valdespino. They scored in the seventh minute on a penalty kick from forward Taylor Maramara.

From there, it was all Corrie Bexley with three straight goals. Her first goal came off a corner kick from Valdespino in the 31st minute, her second off a pass from Katie Hellman then one in the 67th minute.

In the late game, Tampa Prep started slow in the first half,  playing their way to a scoreless tie at halftime. The Terrapins then heated up in the second half en route to a 6-0 win over Carrollwood Day.

“We didn’t play well at all and we had to regroup at halftime,” Tampa Prep coach Cindy Schofield said. “It was night and day between the first and second half.”

Tampa Prep got its their first score just five minutes into the second half from sophomore forward Carly Reiner. Just 10 minutes later, in the 55th minute, senior midfielder Amber Miller got her first of two goals. Senior defender Isabel Dalence scored off a penalty kick 10 minutes after that.

Miller then got her second goal in the 71st minute, as it went off the fingertips of Carrollwood Day goalkeeper Brycie Gauthier.

Junior forward Colby Maffei scored in the 77th and 78th minutes to seal the deal.
