LAKELAND — Brooks-Debartolo handed Lakeland Christian a 14-1 defeat in six innings Tuesday night in the Class 2A region quarterfinals.

Javier Reynoso, committed to play at Coastal Carolina, chalked up 11 strikeouts on four hits and two walks.

“I was commanding my fastball and was getting my curve and slider to work for me,” Reynoso said. “I have a great defense behind me, which gives me a lot of confidence. I don’t have any worries if they hit me because I’ve a lot of help from my teammates.”

Corey Stump, a senior who will play at Florida next season, gave up two early runs to spark Vikings coach Blane Fox to rotate three other pitchers throughout the game.

The Phoenix scored in all six innings, had 14 hits and committed one error while the Vikings made four hits on three errors. Lakeland Christian pitcher’s combined for nine walks and three hit batters.

Brooks-Debartolo plays at Bishop McLaughlin on Friday. The Hurricanes are 3-0 against the Phoenix this season.
