Tampa Prep has advanced to the Class 2A state championship with a three set win over Tallahassee Maclay, 25-10, 25-19, 25-17.

The Terrapins (18-10) will play in the state title game for the first time since 2004, the year of their last of a county-high 15 state titles.

Latora Lofgren led the Terps with 10 kills and 11 digs. Caroline Dillabough had 30 assists and 12 digs.


The Terrapins have taken a 2-0 lead on Maclay with a 25-19 Game 2 win. It didn't come as easy at Game 1, but the Terps opened up a 12-11 to win the set. Lofgren and McGriff have six kills apiece. Megan Aschenbrenner and Dillabough have nine digs each. 


Tampa Prep easily took the first game against Maclay, 25-10. Latora Lofgren led the Terps with three kills and 5 digs. Caroline Dillabough had 9 assists and 6 digs. The Terps had zero service errors and four aces, including two by Ericka McGriff.

Tampa Prep brough a nice crowd to the Lakeland Center. Six buses made the trip from Tampa.


Tampa Prep is warming up for its Class 2A state semifinal against Tallahassee Maclay. And if the Terps are able to win this afternoon, they would play defending champion Orlando First Academy, which won today's other 2A semifinal in four sets, 21-25, 25-20, 27-25, 25-22, over Fort Lauderdale Westminsiter Academy.

Tampa Prep (17-10) is going for its 16th state title and their first since 2004. The Terps haven't been to the state final match since 2004.

Maclay (24-6) had been to the state tournament 31 times, second most of any team, but the Marauders haven't won a state title since 1996.

Three bay area teams will compete in the state tournament today. Tampa Prep plays in moments in the Class 2A semifinal. Plant will face Miami Ferguson in the Class 6A semifinal at 2 p.m. and Hudson will play in the nightcap against Jensen Beach in the Class 4A semifinal at 8 p.m.
