Clearwater Central Catholic didn’t play its best Wednesday, but the good news was, it didn’t need to.

Against an overmatched Lake Placid team, the Marauders muddled through a less-than-satisfying 25-16, 25-19, 25-16 victory.

While CCC (24-6) was in control throughout, coach Stephen Shepherd was hoping for a better showing in what was essentially a tuneup for next week’s rematch with Berkeley Prep.

"Actually, we played rather poorly to be honest with you and still won,” he said. “We wanted to play at a high level of volleyball and get ready for Berkeley Prep, and we wanted to look crisp and be efficient, and we weren’t.”

Sophomore Rachel Miller led CCC with 12 kills, while Morgan O’Brien added eight; Megan Miller had 32 assists. The Marauders will try to win a second-round playoff game for the first time since 1998.

“I think the girls were definitely looking ahead to Berkeley Prep,” Shepherd said.
