TARPON SPRINGS — A pair of playoff regulars are again returning to the postseason, as Seminole and East Lake coasted into the Class 5A, District 11 final.
The Warhawks beat Dunedin 3-0 in one semifinal Tuesday to clinch a spot in next week’s regionals. It is the 11th time in the past 12 seasons Seminole has moved on.
But to clinch a home game in the region quarterfinals, it will have to beat the Eagles, now 24-0 after beating the host Spongers 12-0 in five innings to advance to regionals for the sixth straight year.
East Lake, 2-0 against Seminole this season, is No. 2 in the country according to the latest ESPN Rise national softball poll.
The Eagles sent 14 batters to the plate in the third inning against Tarpon Springs, scoring nine times on eight hits and three Sponger errors.
Catcher Sydney Dinelli had a pair of run-scoring hits in the inning, including a two-run double, and Hayley Davis also doubled and singled in the inning.
Davis finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
