ST. PETERSBURG — East Lake came into Friday’s Class 5A region semifinal with the same focus that has helped the Eagles stay undefeated, easily dispatching Pinellas Park 13-0.

“We were very patient at the plate and we were relaxed throughout the game,” coach Mike Estes said. “Also the most important thing is that we stayed within our routine.”

Ace Alyssa Bache, nursing a sore shoulder since districts,  was back on the mound, striking  out 10 and walking one over 6 1/2 innings.
Sydney Dinelli doubled to start off the scoring for East Lake (27-0) in the second inning. Amanda Weaver doubled to drive in Dinelli. Marisa Palumbo, who was 4-for-5, singled in two runs to put the Eagles up 4-0.

Sarah Schutz drove in two runs with a double, along with one more RBI from Dinelli to catapult the lead to 7-0. Hayley Davis added a two-run blast late, as Weaver drove in another run to cap the scoring. East Lake pounded Pinellas Park for 17 hits, and Bache retired 12 in a row during one stretch.

“The only way we feel we can lose is if we allow ourselves to get in our own heads,” Bache said. “Our goal is to win a state title.”
