Freedom’s season ended quickly Wednesday as the Patriots fell to 5A power Venice on the road, 25-7, 25-6, 25-12.

Ashley Wilson and Lindsay Taggart led Freedom (13-9), which was making its first region tournament appearance, with five kills each. Wilson had a team-high 12 digs, and setter Kelly Schaller tallied 10 assists.

The Indians (20-8) have lost in the region quarterfinals just once in 16 tournament appearances.

“We’re heading in the right direction,” Freedom coach Kerry Short said. “I was telling the girls, ‘This is one of the best teams in the state. We need to learn from them, and learn how to get on the level where we can compete with them.’ ”
