Adam Rasmussen hit a two-run single in the seventh inning to lift No. 3 seed Countryside to a 3-1 victory over No. 2 Sarasota Riverview in the Class 6A, District 7 semifinals on Wednesday.

The Cougars will host top-seeded Sarasota in Friday’s championship. The Sailors advanced by beating St. Petersburg 5-4 in the other semifinal.

After allowing a run in the second inning, Countryside starter Dominic Monda held the Rams hitless the rest of the game. He finished with 12 strikeouts, including the final three batters in the bottom of the seventh. Jake Mielok led the Cougars with three hits.

In the other semifinal, the Green Devils put a scare into Sarasota by jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. The Sailors rallied with two runs in the bottom of the first and three in the second.

Friday’s championship game will be a rematch of a regular-season meeting Sarasota won 2-1 in nine innings.
