Academy at the Lakes tournament canceled

LAND O’LAKES — Academy at the Lakes girls basketball coach Karim Nohra’s shot at 400 wins will have to wait after a tournament his team was to host was canceled. Nohra is 399-139.
The Wildcats planned to host a four-team tournament Dec. 28-29 featuring East Lake, Bloomingdale, Gaither and AATL, but Gaither backed out last week. Nohra thought he found a replacement in Lennard, but that team canceled Sunday. Nohra canceled the series when coaches requested to play the first game, which would have meant a bye for AATL.
“I wish I was playing, but it is what it is,” Nohra said Tuesday. “I’m very disappointed I’m not playing.”
Next up for the Wildcats is Zephyrhills on Jan. 4.
