Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Gulf senior guard Nicole Adams will eclipse 2,000 points for her high school career, possibly as early as next week.

Adams, who is averaging 27.6 points through 17 games this season, currently has 1,961 points. She’s on pace to surpass the 2,000-point plateau next Friday night when the Buccaneers host Wesley Chapel. Gulf travels to Ridgewood on Tuesday.

A two-time Sunshine Athletic Conference and St. Petersburg Times North Suncoast player of the year selection, Adams reached 1,000 points early in her junior year. She has led the Buccaneers in scoring each of the last three seasons and was the team's second-leading scorer as a freshman.

Adams averaged 19.4 points as a junior, 20.6 points as a sophomore and 14.3 points during her freshman season. This year, the 5-foot-10 Adams has been held below 20 points only twice.
