When Tarpon Springs football coach George Kotis reached out to Miami recently to let it know Spongers tailback Adrian Golden was interested in the program, the Hurricanes didn’t bite.

At first.

“They’re loaded at running back,” Kotis said. “They said , ‘If he’s a freak, we’ll let him come down.’ ”

And …

“They saw the film and they’re letting him come down,” Kotis said.

The 5-foot-8, 195-pound Golden will travel to South Florida on Saturday  with a relative and be a guest of the Hurricanes for their game against Oklahoma. It is not known if Golden will visit the Miami campus, which is a good 30 minutes south of where the team plays its home games. But he will attend a recruits’ reception, Kotis said.

What is the extent of Miami’s interest?

Right now, it’s too early to tell.

Golden, by the way, rushed for 144 yards and a TD Friday night in the Spongers’ win over Largo. He has more than 700 rushing yards for the season.
