Times’ all-North Suncoast boys swimming

Swimmer of the year
Devin McCaffrey, Fr., Mitchell
Why we picked him:
McCaffrey arrived at Mitchell with plenty of hype, and he delivered. The freshman earned individual conference, district and region titles in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard breaststroke before grabbing second place in each event at state.
Most impressive accomplishment: McCaffrey took a huge gamble at state, swimming just strong enough to squeeze into the final of both individual events. McCaffrey saved his strongest swim for the final of each event for second place. He also helped Mitchell to a second-place finish at regionals, a first for the program.
Future plans: Too soon to know specifics, but swimming and college seem to be a given at this point.
Did you know? McCaffrey is a huge Ohio State fan thanks to his father, Brian. McCaffrey said he was born in Ohio, living there  three years before the family moved to Florida. Some believe it’s only a matter of time before McCaffrey heads north to swim for the Buckeyes.
