Alonso speedster Brandon Holloway spent last week barnstorming through SEC territory, visiting Vanderbilt and Mississippi State.
On Tuesday morning, he decided his second stop on that trip was where he wanted to stay. Holloway committed to the Bulldogs by phone, Alonso assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Chip Bennett said.
A track standout who is listed as a three-star recruit and the No. 42 best athlete recruit in the nation by Rivals.com, Holloway owned about 15 other Division I-A offers, including Arizona State, Iowa State, Colorado State, FIU, UAB, Toledo, Middle Tennessee State, North Texas, Temple, Troy and Western Kentucky.
But when he arrived at Mississippi State and camped there Friday, he impressed so much that he earned a one-on-one meeting with Bulldogs coach Dan Mullen. And this morning, he called Mullen to give his commitment, Bennett said.
The 5-foot-9, 155-pound Holloway ran for 406 yards and four touchdowns on 97 carries, while tallying 11 catches for 191 yards and three touchdowns. He also returned a punt 90 yards for a touchdown against Brandon and scored on a 98-yard kickoff return vs. Newsome. Holloway was also a Class 4A state medalist in the 100 meters during track season.
