Alonso running back Ish Witter has received his first scholarship offer, from Rutgers, according to Ravens coach Brian Emanuel.
The 5-foot-8, 185-pound junior has also drawn interest from major-college programs including Boston College, Duke, Mississippi State and USF, among a few others.
Witter led the Ravens to within a game of the postseason last year, rushing for 902 yards and six touchdowns, catching 11 passes for 117 yards and converting four extra-point conversions. He surpassed 100 yards rushing in four games, including 205 and two touchdowns in a win over King.
But he was hampered by an ankle injury in the final three games of the season, even sitting out Alonso’s loss to Wharton on Nov. 2 that denied the Ravens a postseason berth.
He still managed to earn first-team all-Western Conference honors at the end of the year.
Witter follows in the footsteps of Brandon Holloway, an undersized but versatile threat who signed with Mississippi State in 2012. Holloway redshirted in his first season at the school.
