With his 27-yard fourth-quarter TD run in Thursday night’s 21-10 win at Tarpon Springs, Countryside tailback Alton Taylor now has 20 scores this season.

That ties the single-season school record set by Cougars star Isaiah Gwynn, who rushed for 1,402 yards in 2003 and was an all-county performer.

By the time this season is over, Gwynn may be a distant second.

“It’s impressive to do it as quick as he’s done it,” Countryside coach John Davis said. “It’s obviously a credit to him, but also to our whole offensive line and even the receiving corps. There’s never any long runs without receivers blocking downfield for him.”

Taylor had another 100-yard game Thursday, giving him close to 1,000 (unofficially) for the season. We’ll have the team’s officials stats posted early next week.
