Anclote senior running back Alonzo Pettiford has verbally committed to Fort Hays State, Sharks coach Matt Wicks said Tuesday morning.
Pettiford, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound athlete, was Anclote’s top playmaker this fall as a second-team all-North Suncoast selection. He averaged almost 9 yards per carry, finishing with 602 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. He also racked up two receiving touchdowns and 268 yards while averaging 33 yards per kickoff return and adding two special teams scores.
Fort Hays State is an NCAA Division II school in Kansas. The Tigers finished 4-7 last fall in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
Pettiford plans to sign tomorrow on National Signing Day, Wicks said.
