Had he not been competing indoors, Jeremiah Green just might have jumped into another borough Sunday.
A University of Alabama signee, Green set a New Balance Armory record with a triple jump of 51 feet, 6.5 inches to win the event at the New Balance Indoor Nationals in Manhattan.
The winning distance, a personal-best for Green, comes roughly nine months after the reigning Class 3A state champ won the NB Outdoor Nationals with what was then a PR (50-10.25).
"I felt good," Green told the Tampa Bay Times by phone Sunday afternoon. "I lost this meet last year when I placed fifth, so I had a little chip on my shoulder, I felt like I had something to prove."
With snow falling outside Sunday morning, Green hit 50-10 in his first preliminary jump before notching his record effort a couple of attempts later. He deemed his winning distance, which won the meet by nearly 2 feet, the highlight of his track career to date.
"But I'm not done, though," he said. "I've still got a lot more track meets."
