Wiregrass Ranch senior right-handed pitcher John Michael Gant became the second bay area pitcher to throw a no-hitter on Tuesday, joining Wharton's Shaun Rubin.

Gant (1-0) tossed seven innings of no-hit ball to lead Wiregrass Ranch (1-0)  to a 2-0 victory over district foe Lecanto in the Bulls' season opener.

Gant, a Long Island University signee, faced 23 batters and struck out 14 while walking three.

The Bulls scored two runs in the fifth inning to give Gant the only runs he or the Bulls would need.

Wiregrass Ranch will go for win No. 2 on the season Friday at Hernando, which advanced to the region final last year and will again field one of the bay area's strongest teams.
