Armwood has hired former college pitcher David Sansom as its new baseball coach, Armwood athletic director Don Hill said Wednesday.

Sansom will take over for Mike Wrenn, who stepped down in July to become an assistant at Hillsborough Community College. Wrenn guided Armwood to two state tournament berths, including a Class 5A state title game appearance in 2010, in the last four years.

Sansom pitched collegiately at Division II Slippery Rock, where he played from 2000 to ’03 and pitched in two Division II World Series. He joined Armwood’s faculty last school year.

“He fit into what’s was happening with out baseball program,” Hill said. “He has an extensive background in baseball. He definitely been a good teacher and is going to be a good coach.”
