College football programs can’t make official written offers until September of an athlete’s junior year. Before that date arrives, however, they can make verbal offers.

Because of that, Armwood sophomore RB Matt Jones already is cleaning up.

Who has stepped forward and pulled the trigger?

Alabama, the 2009 BCS national champion, and Georgia have, according to Hawks coach Sean Callahan.

Armwood has a long history of producing Division I-A players, but there are some who believe Jones may ultimately become the school’s biggest recruit ever. A physically gifted 6-foot-3, 205-pounder, he rushed for 682 yards on 7.75 yards per carry last fall despite missing some time with minor injuries.
