Freedom's Kyle and Eric Schindler, senior twin brothers, have committed to St. Petersburg College, Patriots coach A.J. Leppla said in a text message Sunday.
Kyle, who plays shortstop and pitches, is hitting .308 with eight doubles, eight RBIs, 10 stolen bases and a team-high 22 runs scored. As the ace, Kyle has thrown 50.2 innings, more than double anyone else, and posted a 2.52 ERA. He was also an honorable mention on the Times' 2011 all-county team.
Eric, the Patriots' catcher, is second on the team with a .386 average and has a team-high 14 steals. He also has four doubles, a triple, homerun, 10 RBIs and 21 runs scored.
Freedom posted its first winning season in seven years last year with a 13-7 record. This year, Leppla's thrid as head coach, the Patriots are 13-7 and are the second seed in the upcoming Class 7A, District 9 tournament.
