Kelley, who spent two years at Gaither after transferring from Cambridge Christian, compiled a 3.98 GPA in the law magnet program at Gaither and was also cited for his community service efforts. Boggs, a 12-time MLB all-star and current Wharton assistant coach, was on hand to present him the award at the County Commission board meeting. Kelley will play at Miami Dade College next year.
On the field, Kelley hit .325 with eight doubles and 15 RBIs for the Cowboys, who went on a late season run and advanced to the Class 7A region finals before falling to the eventual state champion Venice.
