Land O' Lakes senior Nick Pardo has committed to play college baseball at St. Pete College, his father Gerardo said Friday.

A 6-foot-5, 200-pound first baseman, Pardo hit .333 with 4 doubles, 4 home runs and 23 RBIs for the Gators last season. He picked up interest from pro scouts over the summer playing in the wood bat tournament in Marietta, Ga.

Pardo comes one of the bay area's biggest baseball families. His uncle, Al, was a standout at Hillsborough and Jefferson and was a second-round pick in 1980 and played professionally for the Baltimore Orioles. His father Gerardo (Tigers) and uncle Braulio (Orioles) also signed prfessional free agent deals. And his cousin, Braulio, a St. Leo product, is currently playing in the Angels minor league system.

"From our pro background we could tell this was the best spot for him," Gerardo said. "It's a helluva deal for him, and I've pressed to him to get that education."

At SPC, Pardo will be reunited with Gaither CF Drew Doty. The two played together as freshmen at Gaither.
