Baseball super seven
Results through Wednesday
1. Land O’Lakes (10-0): The Gators claim to win with pitching and defense, but their hitting’s not bad, either. Six regulars are batting at least .346, and four have double-digit RBI totals.
2. Mitchell (9-2): A six-game winning streak — including a 14-2 throttling of Ridgewood — has the Mustangs roaring into tonight’s rematch against Land O’Lakes.
3. Wiregrass Ranch (8-2): The Bulls had their biggest head-scratching performance of the season last week: a 3-2 loss to Fivay. How much better will Wiregrass get before its county schedule turns tough in April?
4. Springstead (7-2): Brandon Brosher’s offensive ability (three home runs, .455 average) has been established. But the Oral Roberts recruit can pitch, too — he threw his first no-hitter in a 2-1 win over Lecanto this week.
5. Hernando (7-3): The Leopards have shrugged off another sluggish start with three consecutive wins — including a nice 3-2 victory over Tavares.
6. Wesley Chapel (7-3): The Wildcats have had an up-and-down week — the high of Chase Ingram’s perfect game against Gulf followed by a 13-5 defeat at Pasco.
7. Ridgewood (8-5): The Rams rebounded from back-to-back losses to Mitchell and Pasco with a 12-3 victory over Gulf. They can seize momentum with a win over Wesley Chapel tonight.
