Baseball super seven
1. Land O’Lakes (9-0): The victories aren’t coming as easily, with the last three wins by one run each, but they’re still rolling in. Josh Nissen, Alex Reynolds and Kyle Sheffield are all batting at least .500.
2. Wiregrass Ranch (7-1): Aside from a blowout loss to Steinbrenner, the Bulls have won every game by at least three runs, including a 10-4 triumph over Pasco. Ace Zach Drury is averaging more than two strikeouts per inning.
3. Springstead (7-1): The Eagles are perched atop Hernando County, for now, thanks to wins over Hernando and Nature Coast. Few teams boast the offensive firepower of Joey Jeffords and Oral Roberts signee Brandon Brosher.
4. Ridgewood (7-3): The Rams have been up and down so far, with wins over Mitchell and Wesley Chapel but losses to Sunlake and River Ridge. Standout pitchers Adam Arrowood and Joseph Hloska form one of the best 1-2 combinations on the North Suncoast.
5. Mitchell (6-2): The Mustangs have allowed more than three runs in only one game so far. They’re on a three-game win streak, which includes solid victories over Tarpon Springs and Sunlake.
6. Wesley Chapel (8-2): Kyle Custer and Tyler Peck have helped the Wildcats earn three consecutive wins. The big test still awaits, with tough games against Pasco, Mitchell and Ridgewood looming next week.
7. Hernando (4-3): The Leopards hold the same record they did through seven games last year in a season that ended in a trip to the region finals. There’s no reason for panic in Brooksville.
