Plant 3B/1B Pete Alonso, a junior, has committed to Florida, his father, Peter, announced Tuesday.
Alonso, who was named a preseason All-American by ESPNHS and Perfect Game, led all public school hitters with a .485 average and also had 24 RBIs, 11 doubles, six home runs and a .912 slugging percentage.
Additionally, he is a two-time first-team all-county selection and was invited to June's USA Baseball Tournament of Stars, the first step in the selection process for the 18-and-under national team.
Before transferring to Plant before his junior year, Alonso played at Jesuit, where he holds the school records for hits (54) and RBIs (53) in a season. Alonso is the second Hillsborough County player to commit to Florida, joining Durant 2B/P Tyler Danish.
