Berkeley Prep rising senior Sidney Brown, the top returning volleyball player in the bay area and one of the nation’s most coveted recruits, announced Wednesday that she has given an oral commitment to Stanford.

Brown, the Tampa Bay Times’ all-Suncoast and all-Hillsborough County Player of the Year, revealed her decision in an email to the Times.
She had also considered Michigan and North Carolina.

Instead the dominant outside hitter has given a pledge to Stanford, where her close friend and former Berkeley Prep star Jordan Burgess was one of three freshmen to make the All-Pac 12 team.

Brown was one of the area’s leaders in kills at 5.2 per game, and was second on her team in digs per game (3.6) and blocks (27). She led the Bucs to the Class 4A title game, where they lost to MaxPreps’ No. 1, Orlando Bishop Moore.

She was later recognized as one of the nation’s top 50 recruits in the 2014 class by Prep Volleyball, one of only three players from Florida.
