Former Gulf football standout Leon Orr, who is part of Florida’s 2010 recruiting class and just enrolled at the school this month, is expected today to have screws removed from the leg he fractured in September.
“That gets him into rehab and gets him moving again,” Gulf coach Jay Fulmer said.
The 6-foot-5, 315-pound Orr, who played TE and DE at Gulf, was hurt in a Sept. 11 game against River Ridge while trying to catch a pass over the middle. At first, doctors thought Orr had a high ankle sprain, but it was later discovered he broke his leg on the play.
He missed the remainder of the season.
Orr had surgery in late October and has been on crutches ever since.
Despite that, Orr remained a Rivals.com four-star prospect. In its final Rivals 100 for the Class of 2010, the site rated Orr as the country’s 95th best prospect.
