Bishop McLaughlin’s football schedule continues to change.
The Hurricanes (0-3) were scheduled to be off this week but have added a 7 p.m. game Friday at Florida Air Academy in Melbourne, Bishop coach Derrick Alexander confirmed Wednesday.
Bishop was already down a game after its Sept. 16 matchup with Seven Rivers Christian was canceled because the teams had no contract.
A banged-up Hurricanes team scheduled the Falcons (1-2) to keep from avoiding another week off before heading into conference play next week at Landmark Christian. Alexander credited his principal and athletic director for scrambling to find a comparable opponent on short notice.
Alexander said Bishop’s defense has improved and is no longer giving up “PlayStation runs” where opponents cut across the field on long scores.
The Hurricanes are also getting strong play from quarterback RJ Perciavalle. The 5-foot-9 sophomore has only thrown one interception all season – a Hail Mary to end a half. He’s passed for four touchdowns and is averaging almost 200 passing yards per game.
“He’s just growing up real fast,” Alexander said.
