Bishop McLaughlin's Cyrus Beermann signs with Spring Hill College

Bishop McLaughlin pitcher Cyrus Beermann became the third Hurricanes' senior to make his college plans official when he signed this week with Spring Hill College, a NAIA school located in Mobile, Ala.

Beermann joins teammates David Heintz (Univ. of Tampa) and T.J. Wharton (UNC Greensboro), who signed in November. Wharton was the Hurricanes' first Division I signee in school history.

Beermann has compiled a 6-1 record with a team-leading 1.65 ERA in 46.2 innings pitched as a senior. He has 46 strikeouts on the season and has walked just 16 batters.

At the plate, Beermann is batting .344 and has nine RBIs and six doubles.

"I am very happy for Cy. He has worked hard to develop his stuff throughout the off season, and it has shown this year," Bishop McLaughlin head coach Nick Rodriguez said in an e-mail. "He is a good young man and I believe has a bright future on and off the field."

On Thursday, the Hurricanes (20-7) won their second-straight district title with an 11-4 victory over Brooks-DeBartolo and will make their fifth-straight postseason appearance when they open regionals by hosting Santa Fe Catholic in the quarterfinals.
