Bishop McLaughlin senior captain Spencer Valdespino has orally committed to Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La. She will be signing her letter of intent with the school Wednesday.

Valdespino helped lead the Hurricanes this past season to a 13-5-2 record before the team was ousted in the Class A state playoffs by St. Stephen’s Episcopal in the first round, 8-0.

She led Bishop McLaughlin in both goals (18) and assists (17) over the campaign. She even played well in goal after being pressed into service against Nature Coast, surrendering only one score with 12 saves in 40 minutes. Over the course of her career, she has scored 61 goals, the most in school history.

Valdespino also starred for the Brooksville Raid travel club during the prep offseason.

Nicholls State is a Division I program that competes in the Southland Conference. Colonels coach Dylan Harrison just finished his third season at the helm and is in the process of turning the program around. He has a 16-33-4 record over that span.
