Bishop McLaughlin volleyball standout Alyssa Mathis has been selected to play on the Bring It USA all-star team in its annual Global Challenge tournament this summer in Croatia, Hurricanes coach Douglas Chinchar said Tuesday morning.

The tournament runs from July 13-17, and the team will also compete in friendly matches in Slovenia and the Czech Republic. The U17 team features top players from across the country.

Mathis is one of Tampa Bay’s top outside hitters. The powerful junior racked up 100 blocks and almost 400 kills to help Bishop finish 18-7 and reach the Class 3A region semifinals. She has orally committed to San Diego State.
