Former Blake two-guard Brandon Channer, a Division I-A prospect who helped lead the Yellow Jackets to the Class 4A state tournament last winter, told the Times this afternoon he'll play his final prep season at Strawberry Crest.

Channer, being raised with two other siblings by a single dad, said the move was a "family decision."

"I think everything happens for a reason and I think we're making the best decision," Channer said. "We're not looking back at all."

Blake's No. 2 scorer (14.8 ppg) and rebounder (6.7 rpg) last season, Channer (6-foot-3, 205 pounds) had a breakout game in the state tournament, posting a double-double (20 points, 14 boards) in a semifinal loss to Leesburg.

A member of the south Florida-based Team Breakdown AAU squad, he said roughly a dozen colleges have offered him scholarships including Murray State, Texas-El Paso, Old Dominion and LaSalle.

He'll join a Chargers team that finished 9-17 last season.
