Admiral Farragut is limping into the toughest part of its Class 2A, District 5 schedule. The Blue Jackets went into Friday's game against Canterbury without its top two receivers, Rayshawn Jenkins and Alvin Cunningham.

Jenkins, a USF recruit, is out 4-5 weeks with a fractured rib that happened in practice this past week. Cunningham is out with turf toe, but is expected to be back this week.

The Blue Jackets were upset by the Crusaders 12-10 in a game that could have a huge impact on the playoffs. But that isn't all Admiral Farragut lost. Cortavious Givens, the Blue Jackets' leading rusher, left with a knee injury that could be a torn ACL. Admiral Farragut coach Chris Miller said he will know more the extent of Givens' injury once he is evaluated this weekend.

Admiral Farragut also lost running back/linebacker Napolean Maxwell, who left with a concussion. Dontae McGee, a wide receiver/defensive back, played with a bruised shoulder.

The injuries have come at a bad time for the Blue Jackets, who were fourth in the state in Class 2A and were the favorites to win their district. Canterbury and Indian Rocks Christian are still undefeated and in the driver's seat. Admiral Farragut plays Keswick Christian this week, followed by Carrollwood Day on Sept. 30 and IRC on Oct. 7.

"We've got an uphill battle," Miller said. "We're really banged up right now. We're thin so injuries like this are going to hurt. I guess we're really going to find out how good we are as coaches."
