Boca Ciega, moving quickly to find a new football coach, whittled its list of more than 90 candidates to seven, all from Florida.

The finalists to replace Stevie Thomas, who resigned in December, are: Dusty Boylson of St. Petersburg, Antez Brinson of St. Petersburg, Cliff Lohrey of Lecanto, Jason Robinson of Orange County, Jermaine Showers of Gainesville, Joe Skladany of Naples and Josh Weber of Tampa.

The deadline for the position was Jan. 7. The candidates will be interviewed this week with the new coach likely named next week, said Boca Ciega principal Michael Vigue. There could be an eighth candidate, but he has not confirmed his appointment for an interview, Vigue said.

Boylson was former head coach at St. Petersburg who now is an assistant at Dixie Hollins. He currently teaches at Boca Ciega. Brinson has been an assistant at Lakewood under coach Cory Moore. Lohrey was a former head coach at Central who now is an assistant at Lecanto. Weber is an assistant at Alonso. Showers and Robinson both have Arena Football League ties. The other finalists are assistant coaches but have no head coaching experience.
