When Boca Ciega’s Chaise Cook-Martin uncorked a gravity-defying leap in the triple jump Wednesday, she not only flew past her competitors but also into the record books.
Cook-Martin, who was named field event MVP at the West Coast Invitational, set a meet record with a leap of 38 feet, a mark that now ranks as the best in the state regardless of classification according to flrunners.com.
Last season, Cook-Martin took fourth at state in the triple jump. She went 39-2 1/2 at the 2011 Ed Wells Invitational and has cleared 39-5 in practice.
