A few days before Nature Coast running back Matt Breida rushed for a school-record 355 yards against Central, Sharks coach Charles Liggett predicted his star junior would break Hernando County rushing records.
Midway through the season, Breida is on track to live up to Liggett’s claim.
Breida has rushed for 1,049 yards through five games. At that rate, he’ll rush for 2,098 yards this season and set a new county single-season rushing record.
The current mark is 2,044 yards, set by Hernando’s Dwayne Mobley in 1991, according to St. Petersburg Times records.*
Breida and the Sharks will have a tough test Friday when they host undefeated Sunlake.
