Not long after Tarpon Springs’ loss to Countryside on Thursday, Spongers coach George Kotis got a phone call from Florida assistant Dan McCarney.

According to Kotis, the Gators extended an offer for junior DT Brodrick Lee to make an unofficial visit to Gainesville on Saturday to see the Gators play Arkansas. While this does not mean the 6-foot-2, 285-pounder is assured of getting a Florida scholarship offer either now or down the road, it certainly doesn’t hurt to already be on the Gators’ radar.

When other schools get wind of this development (and they always do), Lee’s recruitment is likely to pick up.

Stats from Thursday’s game were not yet available, but Kotis seemed satisfied with Lee’s play against Countryside’s offensive line, which arguably is the area’s best.

“He did fairly well,” Kotis said. “He got double teamed most of the night.”
